Mood Board No. 61
by RODELLEE BAS
This really isn't my 61st mood board, I've probably made hundreds of them to be honest though I rarely share them because I think "Oh, these aren't pretty enough" or whatever self-limiting/self-doubt speech I'm giving myself that day. Anyhow, I thought I'd just start sharing them in the journal and not really because they're inspiration for any single particular piece I am working on, but to show that my inspiration is drawn from so many things and sometimes it is just a piece of a photo, or just a detail from a vintage magazine editorial, or it's the movement and color from a painting.
What's Resonating
The low neckline on this pre-Raphaelite inspired drawingDress silhouettes of the women dancing
The slightly sheer very puffy sleeve from 1970s Seventeen magazine
The front patch pockets of these skirts
The eyelet lace and petite pintuck pleats on this blouse
The simple trio of floral embroidery on the hem of this skirt
I truly am in the belief that absolutely nothing new (at least in fashion) exists under the sun and that is because most designers always turn to inspiration and reference from other things that already exist or existed. I think it is important for me to share that I am not, by any means, trying to make anything "new" in fashion. Atèlette garments are first and foremost inspired by vintage and antique garments, it's just my interpretation of these historic garments and then adding a dash of this, a bit of that, borrowing a little of this from that... and then VOILA! Then I tweak and edit and revise. In case you're wondering, this is how ALL fashion works. No one is really that original, it's just how we put it all together and ultimately it is how you dear friend connect with the work.
